Because you have this natural inclincation to lust after magic, to yearn for riches and fame and glory . . . none of this makes you EVIL. It just means you're a human. A slobby, disgusting, pig of a human, just like every other human walking around wanting to get rich, wanting their own personal universal genie to grant them whatever debase wish they've got percolating in their tiny, shriveled diet-drink-laced poor excuse for a brain. It means you are just like me.
Hey, I want some reward, you bet I do. And like, yesterday. I'm not kidding. I think you would have to be highly dysfunctional to LIKE being poor. To like living paycheck to paycheck, or to like not getting a paycheck. The people you see under the bridges (they are not trolls, most of them are just mentally ill, and there is not much place for them in a capitalist society), most of them don't CHOOSE that, or like it. Most people don't yearn for poverty. Or abuse. Or incest. Or hatred, prejudice, discrimination, persecution.
But the thing of it is, we have to do the best with what we have. We have to keep trying,
keep going, and all the while being as positive and cheerful as we can, as we are able. It is going to take some tough work, some hard work.
That's not good news?
The good news is, hard work is not in vain. Truly, it is not. Hard work is a blessing in itself. We learn from it. We are blessed by it.
Yeah, but what about the moolah?
I know, in this world today, Moolah is the Real and True Messiah. You can be good looking, strong, smart, talented, skillful, all of it, and if you don't have the Mollah you ain't nobody, no how. Ain't that the way of it?
It takes some effort to realize that money ain't everything. That Truth is alive and well apart from Capitalism, or any other ism. That we as human beings have real desires that have nothing to do with money, or fame, or recognition, that doing our job and doing it well is a preprogrammed reality inside of us.
If you go to the fashion magazines for truth, you are in for a world of trouble. Does the devil wear Prada? He probably ain't wearing green paper.
