A letter popped up in my e-mail tonight. The writer told me I was a liar, that I was lying about one of the worst New Age Christian gurus, Andrew Wommack, and that I was hurting the cause by telling the truth. Even with scandals like Ted Haggard, people are still all too willing to worship a man. In fact, Haggard's church is claiming that Haggard sowed good seed, and bad seed. Except that's not what Jesus said. He said a tree or plant produces either good fruit, or bad fruit.
It doesn't shatter me when half-crazed fools send me e-mails defending their hypocrite of choice. But it is difficult to say who is the more messed up, the lying, deceiving guru, or the stunted, deceived worshipper kneeling at the guru's tootsies. Or me, perhaps I'm more messed up than either of them, since I see through them, and won't join. A sane man in a country of maniacs is the insane one, since he is the abberration. It is scary though, receiving these e-mails, from the edge of the lunatic fringe, these haunting and angry words sent through the electronic void. The world is scary.
