Rene Descartes said "I think, therefore I am." It is a good proof of my existence, that I am capable of generating thought. To think. I don't mean running through my memories, replaying spats and spates I've heard before, lectures and sermons and pep talks, but really thinking, playing things through in my noodle, asking tough questions, wondering, imagining, checking against the facts, does it make sense, is it true, or is it something repeated endlessly, until it is believed to be the truth -- repeat a lie often enough and it will be accepted as truth. I think, therefore I am. Think about it.
Thinking proves our existence, so a strong part of our existence MUST be about thinking. If this is true, then a more powerful truth is "I am, therefore I think." It is our responsibility, a primary reason "to be." Even "to be, or not to be" demands some serious thought, and this thought always leads to life, away from death, thought always reaffirms our reason for existing, our reason for being. The "thoughts" that lead to death are not really thoughts at all, but recycling the garbage that has been forced into our
collective thoughts by society, by organized or disorganized religion, by marketers, by salesmen, by the hungry ones who see us as their food and sustenance.
Are you thinking? Are you living out your primary reason for existing, to think? You exist, therefore you think.
The good news is, even if we have wasted the first 36 years of our life, or the first 20, or even the first 65 years, it is never too late to begin to think. You are, therefore you think.
We are told, hourly, that we hardly exist unless we drink diet cola, unless we have a cell phone that takes pictures and sings to us whatever popular ditty we are promised is important. We are told that we need to trust so and so, because they have figured it out, they know, they have been anointed, and if we follow them, or place our feet in their footprints, THEN and only then will we realize our destiny, will we be saved, will we be the life of the party.
But it is all garbage. We have not thought it through. We are being led like rats in a maze, unthinking rats that follow a memorized path.
